Our mission

Free Government Information (FGI) is a place for initiating dialogue and building consensus among the various players (libraries, government agencies, non-profit organizations, researchers, journalists, etc.) who have a stake in the preservation of and perpetual free access to government information. FGI promotes free government information through collaboration, education, advocacy and research.

Telecom industry sponsors astro-turf lobbying

According to Common Cause, the telecom industry is actively engaged in “Astroturf lobbying” — creating front groups and “think tanks” that try to mimic true grassroots, but that are funded by corporate money, not citizen power. They are sponsoring fake anti-net neutrality groups — with names like “Hands Off the Internet”, “TV4US”, “NetCompetition.org”, and the “Video Access Alliance” — in an effort deliberately mislead and sway public perception. We’ve written before about Net neutrality, why net neutrality is absolutely essential for the internet and why the telcos are being extremely shortsighted and will end up destroying the very infrastructure they helped to set up.
