Our mission

Free Government Information (FGI) is a place for initiating dialogue and building consensus among the various players (libraries, government agencies, non-profit organizations, researchers, journalists, etc.) who have a stake in the preservation of and perpetual free access to government information. FGI promotes free government information through collaboration, education, advocacy and research.

Updates to Fall DLC proceedings & Government Podcasts

A tip of the FGI hat to Fall 2005 Depository Library Council (DLC) meeting presenter Aric Ahrens, who sent us a link to his Contrails presentation. A link to the presentation and other related Council information is available on our Fall 2005 DLC Grassroots proceedings page. Hopefully his presentation will soon show up on the official GPO proceedings page.

Update 11/5/2005 – The official proceedings site now has the Contrails presentation plus many of the other educational programs.

We are also happy to announce the addition of Edwards Air Force base to our government podcasts page. Some of their recent podcasts have included these topics:

  • DoD, OPM announce new human resource system 10/28/05
  • Edwards Open House and Air Show update 10/24/05
  • Edwards opens house for Air Show 10/21/05
  • Edwards performs T-38 single engine takeoff speed testing 10/14/05
  • Edwards, DARPA explore new capability 10/7/05

We are happy to see a growing number of federal agencies use this relatively inexpensive communications tool to stay in touch with their stakeholders and look forward to the day when the Government Printing Office follows suit.
