Duane McCollum has had his own blog, the Information Auditor, for about two years now. He started it just as he was finishing his program in Master of Science of Information Management from the University of Washington's i-School (2004). He recently became a Gov Docs geek after going back to school (part time) and taking a grad course in Gov Docs at the Univ of Wash earlier this year.
It was an important course to me as it really opened up a whole new world of government info --and changed the way I think about myself as a citizen.Duane works full-time at a large, US based defense contracting company as a "Systems Engineer" on a defense program; but, what he actually does is policy analysis of DoD Info Technology policies, directives, and architectures and how they effect the program he's working on. He's very interested in information auditing, knowledge management, and IT governance. Continue reading
Peggy Garvin, Blogger-of-the-month for August, 2006 and September, 2009
Peggy Garvin is BOTM for August, 2006 and has returned for another round for September, 2009. Peggy is an independent information professional (aka librarian) based in Washington, DC. Her firm, Garvin Information Consulting, provides writing, training, and consulting on finding U.S. government information, web and database searching, and evaluating information products. Her 25-year career in DC -- both in the private sector and at the Library of Congress Congressional Research Service -- has focused on public policy information and electronic information products. She was chair of the Special Libraries Association Government Information Division in 2006-07. She is chief blogger for the SLA Government Information Division blog. Jessamyn West, BOTM for June, 2006
Jessamyn West is librarian.net. She's a writer, speaker, agitator for all things library (well, maybe not ALL things!). You may have seen her "five technically legal signs for your library" that she created when the USA PATRIOT Act first came out. As she says on her about page:
I love libraries because I believe they are a true manifestation of the public sphere in the US. They are a place where people can read what they want, be who they are, and inform themselves about what interests them. I like to help people do that. I am also fiercely protective of losing what is special about libraries, and much of my work concerns this preservation issue in its many facets. I am a user-oriented librarian when I’m working at a library, and a library activist when I am not. My passion presently is mucking about in the intersection of libraries, technology and politics and describing what I find there.Continue reading
