Historical Highway Marker Database – http://dhr.virginia.gov/HistoricMarkers/Account/Logon – Search by keyword, zip code, county or city, route number or name, or marker number. Results include marker name, text, number, route information, photograph (when available), and a “View in Map” link.

Traffic Monitoring Information System – Michigan collects traffic volume counts on its trunklines. On this page you can click on links to find the definition for the various counts. Click on “Search Traffic Data” to find the data by county and year. You need to spend some time with the definitions to understand the data. You also need to know the official name of the roads and highways.
WYOMING (Karen Kitchens)
Wyoming Newspaper Project – Available through this website are newspapers printed in Wyoming beginning with the 1849 Chugg Water Journal, in an easily searchable format. Browse or search the more than 900,000 newspaper pages converted from microfilm to a digital format. All text is searchable, including news articles, news briefs, obituaries and other items of interest.

SOME STATE DATA SETS AND APPS AVAILABLE FROM DATA.GOV
While not in scope for our project, we wanted to note the presence of a States section at data.gov. This page links to state produced data sets, apps, state data policies and current programming challenges. It is far from comprehensive but still interesting to look through. You can find a link to this section on our main project page after the listing of state pages.
FEATURED DATABASE
Today’s featured database is from Annie Moots, who maintains the Missouri page:
This database contains yearly reports of community public water systems in each county of Missouri. Information in the reports includes assessment of the water source, contaminants and their ranges found in the water, violations of drinking water regulations, and much more. The database is searchable by county then by water system. It is maintained by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Public Drinking Water Branch.

Today’s featured database is from Marilyn Von Seggern, who maintains the Washington page:
Washington State Fiscal Information http://www.fiscal.wa.gov/ – A state law passed in 2008 required creation of a website that would make state revenue and expenditure data as open, transparent, and publicly accessible as is feasible with the goal of making government more accountable. The database provides access to expenditures, revenues, workloads, caseloads, performance measures, and performance audits as well as current and historical budget data and accounting data (some sections searchable by parameter and some provide reports). The Legislative Evaluation and Accountability Program (LEAP) Committee and the Office of Financial Management are jointly responsible for the site.
Examples of financial information available from the database are state agency budget requests, statewide expenditure histories, and state revenues by source up to the most recent month.

Rest Areas and Welcome Centers – Clickable map of 14 rest areas on seven different interstate highways in Missouri. Seven of these are also welcome centers. Some have dual areas across the interstate from each other. Information for each area includes location, who maintains it, the closest town, amenities, number of parking spaces, hours, and distance to the next rest area.
NEW JERSEY (Stephanie Bartz)
New Jersey Courts Search Page – “This is a full-text archive of the Opinions of the New Jersey Courts, including the Supreme Court, from March, 1994 to date, the Superior Court Appellate Division and the Tax Court from September, 1995 to date. Please note that in 2005, the New Jersey Administrative Office of Courts changed its publication policy and began to release all Appellate Division decisions for inclusion in this database. Before that date, decisions marked “Unpublished” were not released, and are available only from the court directly.” Hosted by the Rutgers Law Library – Newark.
Missouri – Missouri Digital Heritage – Contains historical collections about MO from the State Archives, the State Historical Society, and other institutions across the state. Search by keyword or browse collections.

Utility Information Listing – maintained by the Public Service Commission. Search by utility name, PSC id number, industry (electricity, water, etc.) or service (holding company, local exchange carrier, etc.). Results list utility status, reporting class and address. “These guides and this website are a collaborative effort between the Montana Natural Heritage Program and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. The Animal Field Guide provides information on identification, habitat, ecology, reproduction, range, and distribution of Montana’s animals; new features include a hierarchal approach to finding an animal of interest, thumbnail photos of the animals and additional links. The Plant Field Guide offers information on plant species of concern, including references and photographs.” –FWP description

Security Interest Filings – To search for information on security interest filings made with the State Department of Assessments & Taxation. One can search by the business name, by individual’s name and/or by the file number.
NEW YORK (Michael Tatonetti)
Child Care Facility – Search for child care facilities. Search by license/registration ID, facility name, type, county, or zip code. You can also limit your search by facilities that administer medication and facilities that offer non-traditional hours of care.
VIRGINIA (Louise Buckley)
Virginia Natural Heritage Database Search – Users can generate lists of plants and animal species that occur in specific counties, watersheds, subwatersheds or regions such as the Cumberland Mountains or the Outer Coastal Plain. Searches can be done on individual or groups of resources, by scientific or common name, taxonomic group, federal or state legal status, and global or state rarity rank.

Find Local Crime Victim Resources – from the Office of Victim Services. Resources for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, drunk driving, homicide and other crimes. Resources searchable by county.

Maryland Online Digitized Newspapers – These online digitized newspapers are part of the Special Collections of the Maryland State Archives. These newspapers are from the 18th century to the mid-20th century. The digitized newspapers are listed in alphabetical order along with its time period. Scroll down the page to find if a particular newspaper title that you needed is on the list. Please read the noted information on fair use from the bottom of page.

In the past week, Mississippi was adopted by Aimee Slater of Brooklyn College and Virginia was adopted by Louise Buckley of University of New Hampshire.
In the past we have had requests for pages on US Territories and sub-state jurisdictions in the project. If you would like to start a page for such a government, let’s talk.
FEATURED DATABASE
Today’s featured database is from Marilyn Von Seggern who maintains the Washington page:
Washington Information System for Architectural and Archaeological Records Data (WISAARD) http://www.dahp.wa.gov/learn-and-research/find-a-historic-place
WISAARD is a searchable GIS map tool and database of over 1800 registered historical sites and over 300,000 inventoried sites including images, a summary of the significance, and a link to the nomination document. Simple or advanced searches may be initiated via map or by text query for historic name, address, city, county, architectural style, built date, historic use, architect, and listing status. Information on archaeological sites is limited to prevent vandalism.
The database, funded with a grant from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration, won the 2010 Intergovernmental Solutions Award from the American Council for Technology.
For example, one can view the Fort Columbia Barracks in Ilwaco, WA, view a photo of the building which was built in Queen Anne style in 1903, and view the Historic Property Inventory Report.

There is also a separate keyword search for disciplinary actions occurring on or after April 1, 2002 for those records appearing in License Lookup.
