Free Government Information (FGI) is a place for initiating dialogue and building consensus among the various players (libraries, government agencies, non-profit organizations, researchers, journalists, etc.) who have a stake in the preservation of and perpetual free access to government information. FGI promotes free government information through collaboration, education, advocacy and research.

The 2007 National Conference for Media Reform kicked off on Friday. Thousands of media reformers – grassroots activists,journalists, and scholars got together in Memphis, TN to address issues including net neutrality, public broadcasting, ethnic media, global media policy and more. Bill Moyers, the keynote speaker, opened the conference, talking about Martin Luther King Jr. and said, “the bullet killed him but it couldn’t kill the story.”

It looks like the agenda is filled with the discussion of many important media issues, but notably, there are several sessions about women in media highlighting a gender analysis and women’s participation in cutting edge media production. It’s great to see focus on women media which was absent at past conferences.
