Coming in 2012: A new American FactFinder [Corrected]
please see the comment below that corrects this post In case you missed it on govdoc-l, check the interesting news about big changes at the Census: A new American FactFinder in 2012, by Steve Beleu, govdoc-l (Mon, 17 Oct 2011).
The current /new American FactFinder/ will be completely revised during 2012. The new AFF that you have been learning, and that we have been giving workshops about, will change from its historic and current basis, which is based on /surveys and programs/, to a/topics /basis. The standard for its ease-of-public-use will be Google. It development will emphasize not desktops but handheld devices such as smartphones (smartphones and such devices are currently accessing the Census website more often than desktop computers are)....Continue reading

An excellent new tool from Josh Tauberer, creator of GovTrack.us: POPVOX.
Bill text widgets are available on www.popvox.com, which aggregate information about pending bills and let individuals weigh in with a message that is delivered to Congress. Every pending bill is available on POPVOX -- from health and energy, to defense, jobs, and the environment. The bill text embed includes a keyword search and section-by-section table of contents created by POPVOX. ?According to NextGov, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management announced the launch of "a more user-friendly website to search, apply for and share information about federal jobs", USAJOBS 3.0, on Tuesday, ahead of schedule.

Transcript of Nixon’s Watergate Grand Jury Testimony To Be Released in November
Richard Nixon texts and tapes will be released soon, by Al Kamen, Washington Post, (October 11, 2011).
On Nov. 10, the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Archives will make public for the first time a series of recordings and documents, including the much-anticipated transcript of Nixon's grand jury testimony in the investigation of the Watergate scandal. A group of historians sued to make the testimony -- which had been redacted under laws that shield grand-jury materials -- available to the public.Continue reading
