Why should this be of interest to government information specialists? As Riza says, semantic search engines will be much better at finding relevant items for “long-tail queries.” Search engines like Google work well with searches that seek popular information for which there are lots of links pointing to popular pages. But if you or your library users are doing research on arcane topics and not on movie stars, you are doing “long tail queries.” Semantic search engines will do better than current search engines for questions that are longer, more complex, and that aren’t just seeking information that is “popular.”
