Our mission

Free Government Information (FGI) is a place for initiating dialogue and building consensus among the various players (libraries, government agencies, non-profit organizations, researchers, journalists, etc.) who have a stake in the preservation of and perpetual free access to government information. FGI promotes free government information through collaboration, education, advocacy and research.

The Wrath of the Library of Congress

When WashingtonWatch.com issued a press release that said “WashingtonWatch.com provides a more user-friendly and interactive way for the public to learn about legislation than the Library of Congress’ THOMAS site. It’s all about government transparency” he got an email from the Library of Congress asking him to stop using the Library’s name in his marketing materials.
