It's a Cens-ation that's sweeping the nation!

Citizens across the country have received the Census questionnaire this week.

PLEASE FILL IT OUT IMMEDIATELY.

Remember, the Census ensures that your community gets the federal funding it needs. Funding for things like education, transportation, hospitals, and more!

Your information is kept completely confidential for 72 years. Then it becomes available for the public--which means eventually your great-great-grandkids can research where you were in 2010.

So fill it out...send it in...because we can't move forward until you send it back!

72 years once seemed so long.

what is worrying me is with everyone living longer soon your spouse will be living long enough to find out where you were in 2010..

Well, it was originally 72

Well, it was originally 72 years because that was the life span back then. Even today, though, after 72 years, who is going to really care aside from genealogists? Assuming you were born the year of or before a census, you will be around 72 when that information comes out--which means you are likely living somewhere else. Then you would probably be around 20 when you answer your first census in your own home (not your parents). Even if you owned a house at that time, the way people are now--you won't likely still be there at the age of 92. So it would be nice if they upped the range, but I don't think it matters too much. Most people who answer the census as adults are dead by the time it is made public.
