Our mission

Free Government Information (FGI) is a place for initiating dialogue and building consensus among the various players (libraries, government agencies, non-profit organizations, researchers, journalists, etc.) who have a stake in the preservation of and perpetual free access to government information. FGI promotes free government information through collaboration, education, advocacy and research.

The costs of PACER

The results of a survey designed to learn more about actual library expenses for PACER. Respondents included law firm libraries and law school libraries who reported how much they spent on using PACER (Public Access to Court Electronic Records).

The unknown/potential costs of using PACER hold back most law school libraries from letting their patrons fully utilize PACER.
