Have a Transparency Question for Obama? Act Now!

If you have a question for President-Elect Obama on the subjects of transparency or government information, the next few days are your chance to ask him directly. Or support your favorite open-government organization.

Change.gov has opened Round Two of Open for Questions where registered users get to ask questions and/or rate the questions of others. The first round only lasted a few days and so might this round.

So get moving! And if you see good questions or ask some of your own on government information policy, please leave a comment so like-minded people can follow you.

Some questions to get behind

There are so many good questions. Here are a few that piqued my interest:

  • "How will an Obama administration encourage the use of open source software and especially open formats for government data? No government data should be held in any proprietary formant."
  • "Can you please spend some money to hire more teachers, expand higher-level education, and channel funds to universities for libraries and research facilities? Our great universities are crumbling as funding is disappearing."
  • "When will our public schools start using Free software? Our children are forced to learn Windows in nearly every school, even though it's expensive and insecure. Most of our public doesn't know the benefits of Linux, a Free and much more secure OS."
  • "Does your administration have a plan for educating Americans on existing e-gov resources? Someone here asked for a database of best ed practices (eric.gov). Another for an online regs comment system (regulations.gov). Maybe use depository libraries?" (Submitted by Daniel!)
  • "Libraries are the only public education sites open to ALL the people, and are suffering as tax revenues implode or are diverted to uses thought more urgent. Can a "stimulus" bill help with their operating needs, thus helping the people be informed?"

I submitted a couple and will think about more:
